Introduction to the Hospitality & Tourism Management (HTCM_101)

This module is designed to introduce students to the hospitality and tourism industry subjects, providing them with the basic understanding and knowledge of the lodging and tourism industry by tracing the industry's growth and development, both inland and internationally, reviewing the organization of lodging and tourism operations, and by focusing on industry opportunities and future trends. It will raise student's awareness about issues within hospitality and tourism, help them develop an interest in the field, and explore career opportunities.

Occupational Health and Safety (HTCM_102)

This module is designed to introduce students to the various environmental sanitation facilities, health assessment and safety measures and works for the hospitality and tourism industry. It aims to foster in students a critical approach to work as well as its impact on physical and psychological health. Students will be able to recognise danger, with the module enabling them to make the right decision and act at the right moment.

Occupational Health and Safety provides students with the knowledge of applying safe conditions at the workplace while, at the same time, enabling them to familiarise with the basics of first aid.

Computer Studies (HTCM_103)

This module provides students with sufficient computing skills and knowledge to enable them to produce quality academic assignments, projects and presentations.

It aims to teach the students the fundamentals of Word Processing, the use of Internet and presentation tools as well as the basic concepts of spreadsheets.

Professionalism and Hospitality (HTCM_161)

This module is designed to enable the students to acknowledge the need for professionalism and hospitality in the hospitality and tourism industry and prepare them for pursuing a successful career.

Professional English I (HTEN_111)


This module, as all language modules, is aligned with the Common European Framework of References (CEFR) for Languages. The course intends to further extend the basic language skills focusing on communication in the hospitality and tourism industry. By the end of the semester, students are expected to have gone half way through the B1 Level.


This is the first course in a sequential series, and it provides students with basic language skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in English, with an emphasis on practical vocabulary and professional situations.


By the end of the semester, students are expected to be close at functioning close to B1 + Level of the Common European Framework of Reference for Language.


Food and Beverage Service (HTPM_111)

This module is designed to introduce students to the operation of the food and beverage department, and provide a basic understanding of operational tasks, procedures, systems and the department’s integration in overall hotel operations. 


Food and Beverage Operations (HTPM_112)

This module is designed to introduce students to the operation of the food and beverage department and present the fundamental functions and importance of the food and beverage department in hotel operations and other contexts.  It familiarises students with the food and beverage department positions within the food and beverage industry and provides them with an understanding of operational tasks, procedures, systems and the food and beverage department’s integration in the overall hotel operation and other contexts.  The module also facilitates the choice of specialisation area in the second year of studies.

Gastronomy and Nutrition (HTPM_113)

This module is an introduction to the social, historical and cultural forces that have affected gastronomy. It also aims to provide students with the basic concepts of nutrition, current dietary guidelines and needs in relation to the hospitality and tourism industry.

Tourism Principles & Practices (HTPM_131)

This module examines basic tourism principles but also explores the new challenges and opportunities appearing in the tourism scene and examines ways of responding to them. It provides an understanding of tourism development issues as well as the economic, environmental and socio-cultural impacts of tourism development. Additionally it explores future tourism issues and prospects.
